DAY 6 - OUT AND ABOUT IN TAIWAN [4] : SUN MOON LAKE TO JIJI - MONDAY 2 MAY

A brighter day, which cheered us up very much

as I'd been looking forward to the much-raved about Sun Moon Lake.  On the way, we stopped at a rice wine factory-cum-museum - a quick taste but no chance of exporting any

Sadly the reality of Sun Moon Lake is not up to the hype.  After all, nothing says 'Peaceful sacred lake' like a 25-storey block plonked on the shoreline

A victim of its own success with tour parties.  We gave it a fair chance by driving round the edge

but decided to quit early, and chose Jiji as our next base.  It's a smallish town, but on the tourist trail because of its small-gauge railway;  we hadn't expected quite so many tour parties here too but the station is a magnet (eventually, after I'd obliged and taken several group shots I managed a quick clear shot) although, by night, they mostly move on.

We shook down a nice supper in a nearby cafe-cum-shipping container, painted sparkling white and serving marvellous noodleswith a short walk to admire the Chinese lanterns now illuminated the length of the railway line
