DAY 12 - BUKCHON VILLAGE AND THE LANTERN FINALE - SUNDAY 8 MAY

Bukchon, where we're staying, is rather a village frozen in time; the palaces are nearby and consequently most influential families had their houses on the hills nearby.

Certainly the tourist walking route is busy on a Sunday morning

old and a faraway new

Meanwhile, we found that the festivities for Buddha's brthday continued

with food,

lessons in paper-lantern making,

places to chill out,

and you can imagine how this tent set us off humming all afternoon...

The temples

are alive with lanterns (to which messages are attached)

which seems to draw attantion to and emphasise the detail of the temple itself

Then it was time for the entertainment - unexpectedly a mash-up of traditional dancing with Saturday Night Fever

We found some old friends from last night's parade

and, on the way home, spotted how you can come to have a session with your own costume (W10,000 is about £6).  I'm confident that they wouldn't have had anything to fit D!!

Back for a preprandial local beer in our guesthouse courtyard
